Dear Friend,
12 motivated and well deserving Chalmette High School students need your help! In partnership with Chalmette High School and EF Educational Tours, these carefully selected students are planning a life-changing trip to France and Spain. To meet expenses, our students, along with their families are spending hundreds of hours fund raising. As a team we are working at the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans games and students are individually working after school jobs. However, even with all these efforts, we need your help.
We know that many organizations ask you for support. Why donate to us? Our students are vibrant, charismatic youth, possessing the capacity to be tomorrow’s influential leaders. Yet, much of their potential is jeopardized by the limits of their environment. Hurricane Katrina, in 2005, directly affected our students, forcing them to endure the heartache of destroyed homes. Chalmette High School is located in St. Bernard Parish, a neighboring parish to the lower 9th Ward of New Orleans. Would you be shocked to know that the devastation here was worse than in the lower 9th? Katrina left 100% of St. Bernard’s 27,000 homes uninhabitable. Additionally, 78% of Chalmette students receive free or reduced-cost lunches and most have not traveled out of the Southern United States.
Despite these challenges, our students have set their minds to expand their worldview. As juniors and seniors, they realize that this opportunity with Chalmette Abroad will prepare them for college and the work place. Eager to push themselves outside of their comfort zones, they are committed to the program and fundraising. Please donate to make their vision a reality! Your donation will defray international travel costs, excursions, museum entrance fees, food and lodging, as well as insurance while abroad. You may donate in the name of a specific student or to the group as a whole. Regardless of how you choose to donate, remember that your donation accomplishes two things. You help subsidize the students of Chalmette Abroad, and you benefit the Greater New Orleans community. Our students will return to Chalmette with an expanded vision of the world. Isn’t that worth a donation?
After that if you are STILL unconvinced please check out our tour's website to view the full itinerary and watch a video of a day in the life of a high school student abroad! http://www.eftours.com/educational-tour/france-spain

One of our students writes, "I've always enjoyed learning Spanish, but I've never been able to practice it outside of the classroom… I hope that this will make me a better Spanish speaker, which will be a big head start for my life after high school. There are many more job opportunities for people who are bilingual, and if this trip to Spain helps me improve my Spanish skills significantly, it will truly be a life-changing experience."
Thank you for helping to make his future everything that he wants it to be!
Sincerely,
Ms. Jane Esslinger & Ms. Colleen Murphy
